A little about me — I am a curious, humble, and dedicated designer originally from sunny Los Angeles, California. As a first-generation LatinX, my design philosophy is deeply rooted in my upbringing.

Growing up, I helped my parents navigate through life circumstances where the English language was a barrier. I was their guiding voice, finding myself translating mail, doctor visits, and teacher conferences, just to name a few things. Their challenges gave me a fondness to be empathic and understanding, shaping my desire to find a career where I could help others. This desire to help, in combination with my love of art and technology, set the start of my design journey, where I’ve had the opportunity to create products with some amazing people.

Why I Love Design

There's something incredibly fulfilling about dissecting complex issues and discovering solutions that enhance people's experiences. Besides requiring analytical thinking and close attention to detail, I enjoy that product design encourages me to think outside the box and explore different ways to tackle problems. The constant pursuit of working through such challenges fuels my passion for design and empowers me to continue growing.

Hobbies

Since an early age, I have enjoyed drawing, from drawing on school notes to painting on canvas, and today I continue that hobby on my iPad. My focus is cartoon illustrations, so don’t expect a Picasso replica. For reference, here is an illustration of the Mulligan Funding mascot that I created:

"This is Fine," a meme featuring a dog in a burning room, is one of my favorites. It simply fits any situation in which you need to be calm but are surrounded by chaos. Check it out below:

Food

My favorite food is a Coctel de Camarón (Mexican Shrimp Cocktail). A simple recipe containing shrimp, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, lime, and tomato juice; however, add some avocado and pair it up with some crackers, and you have a seafood masterpiece.

Sports

I enjoy playing and watching basketball while also participating in fantasy leagues during the NBA season. Though I don't have a particular team I cheer for, some of my favorite teams to watch include the Lakers, Clippers and Warriors.

Music

My favorite genres of music include Spanish urban, reggaeton, hip-hop, and R&B. So depending on my mood, I sometimes go from Bad Bunny to Drake to Trey Songz.

TV Shows

Hell's Kitchen and Master Chef have recently been among my favorite shows. Due to the intense competition and, of course, the great food on display, these are rather entertaining. To prevent food withdrawals, it is essential to watch while you eat or eat before you watch.

B.S. Human-Computer Interaction

UC San Diego - Warren College

Started as a mechanical engineering major but later found my passion in cognitive science. Decided to specialize in human-computer interaction as its coursework combined creativity, human behavior, and technology. Joining the HCI program was what launched me into the fascinating world of a user experience designer.

2015-2017

Web & Graphic Designer

ProSci Incorporated

Joined this biotech company and became part of their marketing team. Focused on maintaining and enhancing the website's usability while also generating marketing material to generate brand awareness. Learned a lot about animal antibodies and their importance for disease research.

2017-2019

UX Designer

Axos Bank (Formerly Bank of Internet)

As part of the design team, I worked closely with business analysts, product owners, tech leads, and, of course, stakeholders to deliver products. The majority of my design work was focused on consumer and small banking improvements.

2019-Present

Sr. UX Designer

Mulligan Funding

Became a part of this small business lending company as the first official in-house designer. Currently collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver both external and internal products to facilitate the funding process. The majority of my design work has been focused on efforts in credit, sales, and some external-facing platforms for our partners.
